The Niagara Falls International Marathon has been voted one of the top scenic marathons in Canada. This annual event brings lots of visitors, both runners and spectators to Niagara Falls. If you thought this event was just about a run, you’ve got that wrong. The whole weekend, October 25th-27th, is full of events for the participants.
There will be a 5K, 10K, half marathon and full marathon during the weekend. Some of the fun events that are planned include Forever Young & Healthy Living Expo at the Skylon Tower, Greg Frewin Magic Show, a RunFest Pasta Dinner, School Cheer Challenge and of course a firework display over Niagara Falls.
Good luck to all of the participants this year and we hope that everyone has a great weekend in Niagara Falls. Don’t forget, if you are looking for a hotel room, give Best Western Plus Cairn Croft a call at 1.800.263.2551!
They say that a glass of red wine a day is good for you. What if you throw in a yoga class or Zumba class before that glass of wine? That’s gotta be great for you! Introducing: Stretch, Shake & Sip!
Our friends at Pillitteri have created a wonderful package along with Hotel Yoga & Fitness to bring you alternating yoga and Zumba classes each Sunday at 9:00am throughout the rest of March. For only $15/class, you can get some exercise and partake in a guided wine tasting.
Zumba and yoga are both great workouts. Zumba is more upbeat and will give you a good cardio work out; while yoga will help you relax and leave your body feeling wonderful afterward. Don’t worry if you have never done a class like this before, go in and have fun and remember that there is a delicious glass of wine waiting for you at the end!
It’s back! One of the largest events in the area, the Niagara Falls International Marathon is happening this year October 21st. This marathon is one of the only marathons in the world that start in one country and finish in another; start line in Buffalo, NY and finish in Niagara Falls, ON. The marathon originally started in 1974 and was relaunched in 1996, going strong now for the last 16 years. There are a variety of race options: 5k, 10k, half marathon, full marathon and marathon relay. There are also ‘Pace Bunnies’ available for the half and full marathon to help keep the runners on track while they race along the parkway.
Of course, after a good run, everyone deserves a goody bag. The bags this year will include a technical t-shirt and various products donated by such sponsors as: LaKota, ColdFx, Italpasta, Udderly Smooth and Blue Diamond.
The day before the marathon, the Running Room is sponsoring a Breakfast Fun Run. Starting at 8:30 am sharp, the run will meet outside the Oakes Garden Theatre, where you can warm up your muscles for the big day and meet some fellow runners. Breakfast will be served at Planet Hollywood afterwards.
The Niagara Falls International Marathon is always a wonderful event in the Falls. Whether you want to register yourself, cheer on a friend or just check out the marathon, the day is always filled with excitement as each runner crosses the finish line! Runners from all over the Niagara region and beyond will partake in the race and hopefully be able to unwind at a hotel and enjoy other Niagara activities while they are here! Good luck!
The Hockey Nigh in Canada’s Play On! National Championship is coming to Niagara Falls from September 27th-29th! Niagara Falls will be hosting over 100 teams, 76 men’s and 38 women’s from all across Canada who will be playing for the Redwood Cup. Each of these teams qualified top of the ranks in 1 of the 19 tournament held throughout the country in May and June.
The 4 on 4 street hockey tournament will take place on a fully closed Victoria Avenue and it promises to be an exciting event FREE to all spectators! CBC will be broadcasting from Niagara Falls on Sports Day (September 29th) with a celebrity game in the mix as well.
Two weeks ago, you may have noticed a few people walking around Niagara with the loudest golf shorts you’ve ever seen! The Loudmouth Golf Skins Game was being held at Thundering Waters on July 23rd, with John Daly playing in a game the next day. The Best Western Plus Cairn Croft Hotel was the official hotel for the event and was even represented on the first whole by some of their awesome staff (rocking out in the Loudmouth Gear of course)!
There were promotions and samplings on every hole: Carlsberg, Appleton Estate Jamaica Rum, Callaway Golf and Molson Coors. Everyone who went said it was a wonderful 2 days and all the proceeds went to the John Howard Society of Hamilton, Burlington & Area and PROJECT Share. Not only did everyone get a pair of their own Loudmouth shorts but 4 golfers randomly chosen got to play against John Daly the next day! What fun! Hope to see you all there next year with a smile on your face and some crazy pattern on your pants.
Promoting a healthy and active lifestyle and celebrating women, the Niagara Falls Women’s Half Marathon is sure to be a wonderful event. 5000 women running along the Niagara Parkway, past the Falls twice and along the beautiful Niagara River. Women are encouraged to come down for the weekend and enjoy the Niagara region before the run on Sunday June 3rd. Luckily, Springlicious will also be running this weekend so runners can stroll through downtown and enjoy that event all in one weekend. Participants in the Half Marathon will receive some great deals around Niagara such as free samples at wineries, special rates on bike rentals from Zoom Leisure, 50% off Niagara Helicopters and a $40 dining voucher and elevation and observation deck passes from the Skylon Tower. Along with these deals, the participants swag bag is complete with various cosmetics and a bottle of Chateau des Charmes Cab Merlot to celebrate their run. If you are a runner, a woman and looking to get away for a weekend, the Niagara Falls Half Marathon is right up your alley! Don’t forget when you sign up for the marathon to also book your accommodations for your special weekend.
When your from a country like Canada hockey is a word you most often. And honestly, it is one of the most exhilarating games to watch. Whether it be the NHL with the Toronto Maple Leafs playing the Pittsburgh Penguins (“Go Sydney”) or watching a Junior A team like the Niagara Ice Dogs the game and atmosphere stay the same!
Have you ever seen the Ice Dogs in action? It is spectacular! I had a great time, especially when they played the Belleville Bulls. Having gone to Loyalist college before enrolling at Brock University, I had the pleasure of watching some of my good buddies (who play for the Belleville Bulls) play this game and take home many wins. Therefore the Bulls have a special place in my heart. But this Sunday is not about Belleville, it is about the Niagara Ice Dogs and the Kingston Frontenacs fighting over the puck and hopefully making some award winning shots.
You have to see them, but if you can’t make it down to Kingston there is a game on Friday night in St.Catharines where the Ice Dogs take on the Mississauga St. Michaels Majors. Another great time with a amazing line-up. Even if your not that into hockey I guarantee you would still have fun, enjoying the food, the drinks and the sounds of the crowd.
But maybe your looking for the world juniors. Last year the Cairn Croft Hotel tranformed their Oak Room into “Canada House” featuring cocktails such as Motts Caesers with their featured appetizers for spectators. Rumor has it they will be implementing this again. You do not want to miss out!
