Loudmouth Golf Skins Game

Two weeks ago, you may have noticed a few people walking around Niagara with the loudest golf shorts you’ve ever seen! The Loudmouth Golf Skins Game was being held at Thundering Waters on July 23rd, with John Daly playing in a game the next day. The Best Western Plus Cairn Croft Hotel was the official hotel for the event and was even represented on the first whole by some of their awesome staff (rocking out in the Loudmouth Gear of course)!

There were promotions and samplings on every hole: Carlsberg, Appleton Estate Jamaica Rum, Callaway Golf and Molson Coors. Everyone who went said it was a wonderful 2 days and all the proceeds went to the John Howard Society of Hamilton, Burlington & Area and PROJECT Share. Not only did everyone get a pair of their own Loudmouth shorts but 4 golfers randomly chosen got to play against John Daly the next day! What fun! Hope to see you all there next year with a smile on your face and some crazy pattern on your pants.

Mini-Putt at The Super Putt

A date night turned intense mini-putt competition. My boyfriend and I decided it would be fun to play a round of mini-putt and the loser would buy the other a drink. He is an avid golfer and I am.. well.. not. I tried to warn him that I was surprisingly good at mini-putt but I don’t think he believed me until we started our game.

The Super Putt offers 18 holes of different green layouts and is conveniently located down Lundy’s Lane from The BEST WESTERN PLUS Cairn Croft.  Adults play for $7 and Children 12 and under play for $6. The holes all have funny little names. My favourite, Lover’s Leap, involves you shooting your ball over a small stream running through the course. It’s a simple, fun activity that I think many people have forgotten about. I would highly recommend going to The Super Putt on a date or taking the whole family. Spice it up; bet who’s going to win, take blind shots or whatever other creative things you can think of.

So now you’re wondering what the outcome of my intense competition was.  I was beating my boyfriend most of the way; I’m clutch at the close up shots (he was rather impressed). Sadly, on the second last whole, I lost my momentum and he beat me by 3 strokes. Needless to say, that night, I bought the drinks.

Niagara Golf in the Fall

Niagara is known for its world class golfing and beautiful golf courses. When the summer sun is just too hot for you to hit the links… planning a tee time for the fall is the perfect solution!
The courses are less crowded, foliage has started to turn, there is a nice autumn breeze and the sun is still shining. I’m new to golfing so I must admit you won’t see me on the greens anytime soon, I stick to the driving range. But I know that Niagara’s golf courses, from Legends to Whirlpool, are beautiful in the summer or fall.
There are also some really great golf packages available in Niagara Falls- that have your accommodations and tee times all taken care of. The BEST WESTERN PLUS Cairn Croft Hotel is the official partner of Niagara Parks Golf and are specialists in making sure your golf weekend is exactly what you were looking for.

Whirlpool doesn’t just have a great course…It also has great food!

Most people think that golf courses are off limits unless they golf, but this is certainly not true. Coming from a girl who yells “fore” or misses the ball more than she hits it, golf courses are always trying to entice locals and travellers to stop in, eat, or even try playing a round (if they are up for it). Many hotels also offer great golf packages that allow travellers and locals to play a round of golf and enjoy a delicious meal. Whirlpool is one of those golf courses. That is why Hayley and I decided to try out Whirlpool and see what their dining was like.

Stepping into the pro-shop you could definately tell that we were not “golfers,” but the employees were very accommodating and willing to help us with anything we needed. They even showed us to the dining area; it was beautiful. We could either sit in the shade of the dining room or sit closer to the outside in the sun. Hayley and I decided that we would sit in the sun to enjoy our meals.

We started with crab-cakes as a starter. They were delicious– I could have ordered plate after plate of those delicious crab cakes, but I know I needed to try something else. So Hayley decided on a turkey wrap and I tried the Canadian burger. One word…Delicious! We were both very happy with our orders, as well as the service.

Whirlpool is not the only golf course that you can enjoy Niagara Falls dining. All the Niagara golf courses have very interesting and delicious dishes that anyone can choose from–whether you’re a golfer or not! So next time your looking for a great place to eat, why not check out a golf course? They will not let you down.
