Niagara Falls is the place to be for your Canada Day celebrations! Not only does Niagara Falls have the world famous firework display to ring in Canada’s birthday, but lots of fun is planned throughout the city during the day as well.
There will be a Canada Day parade, along Victoria to Queen Street, starting at 11:00am. The main stage, at city hall will have opening ceremonies with performances from Elton Lammie, Senior Star and Pop Sensation, which are playing at the Greg Frewin Theatre throughout the summer. Birthday Cake will be served at noon, but only while quantities last, so make sure you get there early!
Not only can you celebrate Canada Day but you can also celebrate the Niagara Falls community with demonstrations by Club Italia, Happy Feet Dance and many more. This is happening at the corner of Queen & St. Clair. All along Queen Street, you will also be able to enjoy our local delicious food vendors. Lots happening downtown!
Once you’ve had all the fun you can have on Queen Street, make your way down to Queen Victoria Park to watch the firework show and show your Canadian pride!
Can you think of a better way to kick off summer then with a festival dedicated to celebrating wine? Me either! The Niagara New Vintage Festival is not something to be missed; with wine and food and great live entertainment, it’s going to be a great weekend!
To get the festival started, Sam Roberts Band will be playing at Jackson-Triggs amphitheatre. If you are lucky enough to have tickets to this sold out show, this band will definitely put you in the summer vibe. The next night, Jackson-Triggs will be hosting another huge name!
Chantal Kreviazuk will be sharing her musical talents while Niagara sips on some of its talents and good news! There are still tickets available.
The Discovery Pass is what you are looking for if you want to experience 8 different wineries. The pass can be used over two weekends, June 15-16 and 22- 23, and each winery will have their own take on showcasing their wines. Cattail Creek Estate Winery will be doing a Riesling and Rueben, showing off not only their delicious Riesling wine but also a delicious Rueben sandwich among their picnic tables. Chateau des Charmes will be presenting Sparkling Deconstructed, serving up 4 wines to compare, 2 of their stills and 2 of their sparking. At Diamond Estates Winery, along with a wine tasting, you will also be able to take the Cellar Floor Experience, which will teach you about their entire wine making process. And these are only 3 examples of the great experiences you can have!
This year, Niagara Falls Comic Con has brought in some pretty impressive guests! Turning 50,000 square feet of the Scotiabank Convention Center into a comic and pop culture hub, Comic Con will not disappoint. Happening June 8th and 9th, with a weekend pass only costing $30 and I think you’ll need the whole weekend to experience everything that will be there this year!
Comic book vendors, artists, celebrities and attractions will fill your day. Some of the renowned comic book artists include Marc Silvestri, Colleen Doran and George Perez. The 1966 Batmobile will be on display, a gaming area will be there to try a variety of different video games and a Cosplay Costume Contest will be held on Saturday for Best Male, Best Female, Best Boy, Best Girl and Overall.
And the impressive list of celebrity guests include: Adam West (1960s Batman), Corey Feldman, Lou Ferrigno (The Hulk), Sam J. Jones (Flash Gordon), David Prowse (Darth Vader) and Larry Thomas (The Soup Nazi).
If you are coming from out of town, The Best Western Plus Cairn Croft has great packages available to make sure you are taken care of during your Comic Con weekend! Take the WEGO Shuttle from our hotel and walk a quick 10 minutes to the Scotiabank convention center.
Now I’m not sure if growing up in Niagara Falls had anything to do with my love of wine but I know one thing.. icewine is the nectar from the gods! And luckily.. there is a full festival celebrating Niagara’s expertise in this category! If you have never tried icewine , you need to. Plain and simple. Then you’ll understand. Continue reading
This year’s Niagara Falls Santa Claus Parade is happening November 17th! Now that may seem a little early to be celebrating the holiday season but Santa has a lot of parades to partake in and a ton of toys to make… so get in the Christmas spirit early!
Every year volunteers, sponsors, charities and schools get together to parade around Niagara Falls downtown to help everything run smoothly and make sure everyone is having a wonderful morning! For me, the Santa Claus Parade was always about bundling up in a scarf, grabbing a box of Timbits and some hot chocolate and enjoying all the excitement in the air. There are bands, dancing groups, high school students chanting away and of course Saint Nick himself, with his loving wife Mrs. Claus!
If you have never been, check out the video of last year’s parade!
The parade route starts at Victoria & Jepson, goes down Victoria, down Valleyway, down Queen Street and stops at Queen & Erie. So the parade starts at 11:00am, come early and find a good spot to post up for the morning with the kids (bring some blankets and lawn chairs).
It is hard to believe that the Winter Festival of Lights is already upon us! The hard working Winter Festival of Lights staff have been working throughout the year to make sure that this year’s lights and events are just as special as you remember them to be!
If you can’t get out right away to see the lights, don’t worry! The displays will be there to enjoy until January 3rd and there will be various events and concerts throughout that time. The 6 km of over 3 million sparkling lights have become a staple for Niagara Falls in the winter. Last year Canoe.ca voted it one of the top 10 Canada’s best winter festivals and Frommer’s voted Niagara Falls as one of the top 10 decorated cities!
It’s back! One of the largest events in the area, the Niagara Falls International Marathon is happening this year October 21st. This marathon is one of the only marathons in the world that start in one country and finish in another; start line in Buffalo, NY and finish in Niagara Falls, ON. The marathon originally started in 1974 and was relaunched in 1996, going strong now for the last 16 years. There are a variety of race options: 5k, 10k, half marathon, full marathon and marathon relay. There are also ‘Pace Bunnies’ available for the half and full marathon to help keep the runners on track while they race along the parkway.
Of course, after a good run, everyone deserves a goody bag. The bags this year will include a technical t-shirt and various products donated by such sponsors as: LaKota, ColdFx, Italpasta, Udderly Smooth and Blue Diamond.
The day before the marathon, the Running Room is sponsoring a Breakfast Fun Run. Starting at 8:30 am sharp, the run will meet outside the Oakes Garden Theatre, where you can warm up your muscles for the big day and meet some fellow runners. Breakfast will be served at Planet Hollywood afterwards.
The Niagara Falls International Marathon is always a wonderful event in the Falls. Whether you want to register yourself, cheer on a friend or just check out the marathon, the day is always filled with excitement as each runner crosses the finish line! Runners from all over the Niagara region and beyond will partake in the race and hopefully be able to unwind at a hotel and enjoy other Niagara activities while they are here! Good luck!
From Friday October 5th until 8th you can visit over 125 selected vendors at Ball’s Falls Thanksgiving Festival. You will find pottery, paintings, hand crafted jewellery, gardening tips and tools as well as one of my personal favourites the birds of prey demonstration.
This festival is going on its 38th year and has always been an autumn favourite! With the cooler breeze blowing in, everyone bundles in their sweaters and heads out to the beautiful Ball’s Falls for the day. It is a wonderful trip for the family or a perfect way to spend the day with your sweet heart. Admission is $6/person or free for kids under 14!
Of course we all know that Niagara is known for the amazing wine that comes from this region and what better way to celebrate that than with a Niagara Wine Festival! From September 21st-30th, the Niagara region will be filled with different events and activities, with the main hub of the celebrations in Montebello Park in St. Catharines.
There are Pre-Festival Events such as the Grape Growers of Ontario Celebrity Luncheon with Steve Smith, a.k.a. Red Green as special guest, as well as a Grape King Installation. Throughout the festival, Montebello Park will have FREE admission and FREE parking evenings and weekends. The festival will be token based, with tokens for sale in the park to purchase different local cuisine samplers and winery favourites by the glass or bottle.
You will not be left needing more entertainment either. The festival has a jam packed schedule of local bands: Platinum Blonde, The Bends, Up Yer Kilt, Tell Tommy, Glory Days (Springsteen tribute band), Blue Radio (Blue Rodeo tribute band), The Caverners (who have played at The Croft Lounge before), Street Pharmacy and 351 Cleveland (who won the Best Bar Band in 2011 from Niagara Music Awards).
And who doesn’t like a parade? Well this festival has two! The Pied Piper Parade will take place Saturday September 22nd at 11am with all the children’s favourite story book characters in attendance. The 61st Annual CIBC Grande Parade will take place Saturday September 29th at 11am complete with marching bands, drums corps, community groups and performers!
The Niagara Food Festival, sponsored by Niagara College, has been voted one of Ontario’s Top 100 Festivals and it is not one to miss! Running from September 7th-9th, Niagara Food Festival will be hosting These Kids Wear Crowns at Niagara College campus downtown Welland on Friday night, along with a local band Street Pharmacy. On Saturday the venue switches it up and offers something for all ages to enjoy, the Rolling Stones tribute band Hot Rocks.
There will be a ton of delicious food and drink vendors; Above And Beyond Cup Cakes, Beaver Tails, Crystal beach Candy Co., Grouchy’s Original BBQ, M.T. Bellies and The Smokin’ Buddha just to name a few. A great time and great food is sure to be had this weekend in Niagara!
